I don’t have too many new eating places in our area to mention this month but there are certainly a couple worth noting. Lamorinda has a new beer garden, and although I generally don’t look out as far as Berkeley, I’ll make an exception this time for reasons that will become apparent. I also want to mention a San Ramon restaurant that isn’t new, but is perhaps not too well known.
Headlands Brewing Company – Lafayette
With outdoor patios, fire pits, and landscaping that’s inviting for kids and dogs, Headlands has an attractive vibe. The brewery has been in operation since 2013, and specializes in small batch IPAs, both hazy and traditional, as well as an American lager and a Pilsner. These are all on offer here together with a guest brewery stout and an amber ale.
With around 13 beers in total, they opened at the beginning of June and have been very popular from the word go. Food offerings are limited, comprising sausages and some snacks, but patrons are welcome to bring there own food in, and with Boneheads Barbecue being right next door, you don’t have too far to go.
Headlands Brewery is at 3240 Mt Diablo Blvd., Lafayette. Their website is at headlandsbrewing.com.
The Salt – San Ramon
Located in the Canyon Lakes Center on Bollinger Canyon Road, The Salt is a stylish, modern California Fusion restaurant with an Indian influence. With lots of space and ample parking, this is a very appealing eating place and although you may find some familiar sounding dishes on the menu, many will be unfamiliar.
The menu changes frequently, but some dishes noted recently were Cauliflower Wings (!), Shrimp & Grits, and Lamb Ribs. They have an extensive and interesting wine list.to most. For the adventurous though, Malabari Fish Curry or Garlic Chili Chicken Tikka may be worth a try.
The address is 500 Bollinger Canyon Way, San Ramon and their website is at thesaltsanramon.com.
Via del Corso – Berkeley
Many Walnut Creek diners were disappointed when Prima Ristorante closed its doors last summer, a victim of the pandemic. Now, restaurateur Peter Chastain, who formerly ran Prima, has opened a new Italian restaurant in Berkeley.
Via del Corso officially opened Wednesday at the former location of Corso, the popular Italian eatery that shuttered in November, and while it will have a new menu, they will be keeping several entries that will be familiar to Corso customers. The aim is to create the unpretentious vibe of family-owned restaurants in Italy that serve up fresh goodness in a casual environment.
Via del Corso is at 1788 Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley and their website is at viadelcorso.net.
