To say that 2020 was, and still is, a year of change is as big an understatement as I can imagine. And while it will undoubtedly be remembered mostly as “The Year of The Pandemic”, I think it’s fair to say that the level of response to a number of examples of police violence involving members of the black community was also unanticipated. Add to this the fact that 2020 is an election year and there is certainly a lot for everybody to take in.
The real estate industry has also seen its changes and challenges. From an individual agent’s perspective, the Coronavirus outbreak initially made it virtually impossible to operate. Real estate was not initially considered an “essential business” and we were not allowed to visit potential sellers or show homes – not even vacant ones.
Even now, when real estate is once again considered an essential business, things are far from back to normal. There are multiple conditions in place that have to be met before a potential buyer can visit any home and Open Houses are not allowed under any circumstances. Our offices are closed and we are working from home. There is an increasing reliance on technology, and agents who have the know-how to provide top quality photos, 3-D video tours and virtual open houses have a considerable advantage. It’s worth noting that buyer demand is still strong and there are many cases where people have bought homes without even having stepped inside them, just relying on virtual tours etc.
Michelle and I have always made a point of using the most effective tech tools to promote our listings of course, and the latest example is the Matterport Tour, which depicts your home as a “dolls house” like the picture below. Not only does this allow potential buyers to see a 3D floor plan, but you can even have a virtual walk through of a home for a truly immersive experience.
It’s impossible to predict when, even if, things will get back to normal. In the meantime, we will continue to adjust to this developing situation and you can rest assured that we will always be here to help you in matters real estate related.
